Technical Field

About HRW?

  • It is a self-supporting retaining wall method that utilizes the pullout resistance of Helix Piles installed at the rear to prevent horizontal displacement of the retaining wall during shallow ground excavation.
  • The Helix Piles connected to the top of the retaining wall resist the horizontal displacement of the wall through the wings, the tip of the pile, and frictional resistance, eliminating the need for additional support structures.

Background

1. Raker method

Application Conditions

  • When the excavation area is medium-sized or smaller, and the planar shape is favorable
  • When the ground is stable
  • When anchor installation is not possible on adjacent land

Advantages of the Method

  • Simple construction and reliable reinforcement
  • Early detection of deformation or failure

Disadvantages of the Method

  • Significant settlement and displacement of surrounding ground
  • Risk of buckling, overturning, and movement of braces
  • Requires additional concrete support blocks
  • Reduced excavation efficiency
  • Difficult to placement of rebar and pour concrete during structural construction
  • Quality degradation due to structural block-out

2. Earth Anchor method

Application Conditions

  • When the excavation area is large
  • When stable ground is available for easy anchoring
  • When groundwater levels are low
  • When occupation of external site land is possible

Advantages of the Method

  • Ample working space
  • Allows partial excavation for easy division of tools
  • Construction using small equipment

Disadvantages of the Method

  • Reduction of tensile force over time
  • Settlement of rear ground due to air and water pressure during drilling
  • Construction not possible if utilities are present in the rear ground
  • High construction costs
